One of our goals is to help provide some information surrounding local
resources and types of support that may be available to assist a family's
needs.
DETAILS: The
Travel Assistance Program (TAP) offers travel discounts to eligible
B.C. residents who must travel within the province for non-emergency
medical specialist services not available in their own community,
and whose travel expenses are not covered by third-party insurance
or other government programs.
To be eligible for TAP - you must be a BC resident and be enrolled in the Medical Services Plan (MSP), you must have a physician's referral for medical services which are not available locally.
DETAILS: The At
Home Program (AHP) is intended to assist parents with some of the extraordinary
costs of caring for a child with severe disabilities at home. Offering
financial assistance with special equipment, travel for medical purposes,
medical supplies, medications, therapies respite care and dental
benefits.
COST: Families
with children in medical need who are currently employed can apply
for medical leave through their Employment Insurance office. This
is also available to relatives who need to care for siblings
remaining at home while the family is seeking treatment.
